I recently learned of a technique that has been around for hundreds of years. It’s called English Paper Piecing. This is an easy way to quilt when you’re away from home and your sewing machine because it is portable. First thing to do is buy some paper pieces from your local quilt shop or buy from this site Instant Piecing You’ll find the directions in the pattern but here are a few to get you started.
1. Cut a piece of fabric about 1/4 inch larger than your template so you can fold it over.

2. Pin the template to the Wrong side of the fabric

3. Baste the fabric to the template all the way around.

4. After you have several completed take your center hexagon
(if that is what you chose) and an outside hexagon and place them
right sides together. Take small stitches in the edge then repeat
with the rest until you have a flower.

5. Press the flower gently and repeat with the rest of the hexagons.

6. After you have several sewn together you can remove the basting stitches and reuse the paper pieces

I hope this has inspired you to try this easy, portable quilting technique.

Until next time!

Happy Quilting!

1185031_pile_of_moneyQuilting products have been widely accepted over the years. Many stay at home moms who are interested in setting up their home business have successfully turned their quilting passion into a profitable part time business.

What are the important factors that need to be considered before venturing into this business?

Market survey
If you are already passionate about quilting, it should not be difficult for you to carry out market surveys about which type of quilting products are widely accepted. This is an important step before starting your own quilting business because you must sell something that your prospective customers want and not something that you like.

Other than finding the popular products that are highly demanded, another important thing that should be on your survey list is the market price of quilting products. This information is required for sales budget preparation and for cash flow forecasts for your business. The best way of surveying the market price is to visit craft shows or quilt shops which are nearer to your house. Nowadays, you can also do it on the internet because they are many internet stores that are selling quilt products.

Start from small
It is always advisable to start your quilting business from small. For example, you can begin quilting for your closed friends, neighbors or relatives at home by charging them a small price to defray your materials costs and other expenses. Once you have a steady stream of customers, it would be much easier to expand it later.

I decided a few weeks ago that I wanted to pursue a hobby in Scrapbooking. As I read articles,  watch how-to videos I realized there was a whole other world of scrapbooking that could be done using my trusty computer (of which I’m never far away from). . . DIGITAL SCRAPBOOKING!!!  I was very excited and then proceeded to read all about that too.

Stay tuned for many more posts and pictures of my new adventure!
