Let’s face it, book marketing on Amazon is complicated.

But with a few tips you can un-complicate the process and have eager readers buying your books.

We’ll begin with your book description.

Do you have typos in the body? I know you were in a hurry to get your book on Amazon but did you really take the time to check for spelling and other grammatical errors?

What about spacing issues? If you just copied and pasted your book description this process does not always lend itself to automation. As I work with authors I’ve seen many times their book descriptions do not have paragraph breaks. This make it tedious for the reader to glance and get an idea about your book. Other times the paragraphs may be in “your” pasted entry but after you save the description some of the formatting disappears. Always recheck to make sure it looks great!

Add some bullet points to your book description on Amazon. This is another way to make your book description stand out and be easily scanned by readers.

Now let’s move to your author biography. The readers want to know YOU! You don’t have to tell your entire life history but you do need to share a few enticing tidbits.

  • Do you have pets?
  • What are your hobbies?
  • Does your bio match your writing genre?
  • If you just wrote a home and garden book, you should include a few words about your home and garden. If you wrote a romance novel your bio should be a bit gentler and less geeky.

Do you have a photo of yourself? This is another important piece to include on your Amazon author page. Get creative with this one. Take a picture of yourself in your garden (yes, we’re still on the home and garden book). Just be sure to have a photo.

Did you know you can add video and links to your website on your Amazon Author Central Page? Yes! Make sure that each time you have an interview about your book that you get access to the video file and upload to Vimeo or Youtube. Add these links to your author page.

Do you blog about your book? You can add the RSS feed to your Amazon Author Page.

Keep this page updated regularly!

These are just a few tips but if you do them all you just may see an increase in your book sales.
